The Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIMC) is considering conducting the interview process online for admission of candidates to the 2020-22 batch of the 2-year Post Graduate Programmes. A proposal for the same has been sent for the approval of the IIMC director and the final decision on the proposal may be taken by next week.
The institute's decision has come after the government has put a ban on large gatherings and social events. The impact of the Novel Coronavirus is being felt on a global scale and countries across the world are taking quarantine measures and steps to prevent large social gatherings. The functioning of educational institutions, including that of the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), has also been affected since the MBA admission process in India is currently ongoing.

The Shortlisted / Waitlisted Candidate List for IIM Calcutta was released in January in which 2,000 candidates were included. These candidates had to appear for the GD / PI rounds as per the IIM Calcutta Selection Process . Around 700 of these candidates are still remaining to be interviewed.
If the proposal to conduct online interviews in place of personal interviews is accepted by IIM Calcutta, candidates scheduled to appear for IIMC interviews in Delhi and Mumbai would have to visit designated centres to sit for online interviews with the IIMC faculty members.

Some candidates and faculty are of the opinion that this would put them at a disadvantage since being in the physical presence of an interviewer may have an impact on the interview. However, as per a senior official of IIMC, taking alternative measures is essential as postponing the interview process may cause a delay in the admission process of the 2-year PGP course at IIMC.
