The Indian Institute of Kashipur (IIM Kashipur) has recently launched an innovative two-week Madrasa Teacher Training Programme on March 3, 2020, to connect the Madarsas across India with mainstream educational administration and management for the development of children who are studying in the Islamic seminaries. The programme was inaugurated by Prof Kulbhushan Balooni, IIM Kashipur’s Director who said the aim of this programme is to have modern educational approaches in the Madarsa system so that it helps in the better delivery of educational services in a more professional manner.

The IIM Kashipur programme will be delivered by external resource persons and IIM professors from across the country. The introductory address was delivered by Prof Sajid Jamal from the Faculty of Education, Aligarh Muslim University. He emphasised upon the importance of Madrasa education in India and highlighted the role of the Madarsas in spreading education among the underprivileged segments of Muslim society.

Prof Baharul Islam, Dean (Academics) at IIM Kashipur along with the programme director welcomed the participants and also expressed his gratitude to the government for giving the institute the opportunity for this programme. This programme at IIM Kashipur will serve as a model programme for many institutes in the near future and it will have a second phase of training during which the trainees will come back with an improved plan for the development of their respective madrasa and get help with the project management from the institute.
