IIM Sambalpur has signed an MoU with Flipkart to collaborate and promote the weaver community and artisans in India. This collaboration will offer training in multiple fields and also provide an e-commerce business digital platform.
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur has collaborated with Flipkart, the e-commerce giant to promote weavers and artisans and to provide them a digital business platform. This collaboration has taken place to offer small businesses a chance to reach new heights.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed virtually. The Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Flipkart, Rajneesh Kumar, and the Director of IIM Sambalpur, Mahadeo Jaiswal in the presence of Joint Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Usha Padhee signed the MoU.
This partnership between Flipkart and IIM Sambalpur will help the small businesses of artisans and weavers. They offer e-commerce platforms, market insights, and technology upliftment to these small businesses or markets. The MoU also includes that IIM Sambalpur will identify other artisans and clusters of weavers across Odisha and bring them on board with the initiative by Flipkart, Samarth, a pan India program to connect businesses and provide a base for it.
Further, this partnership also offers other additional benefits and opportunities. It enables the artisans and weavers to get training on accounting, marketing, and business management apart from just researching the problems faced by them. Flipkart has also collaborated with a few state governments on the initiative Samarth, including Odisha.
In Odisha, Flipkart has collaborated with the State Institute for Development of Arts and Crafts (SIDAC) to provide access to pan-India to some of the renowned Odia brands such as Boyanika, Sambalpuri Bastralaya, Utkalila, and many more. It offers are marketplace through Flipkart for commerce and business.

The Director of IIM Sambalpur, Mahadeo Jaiswal states that the collaboration with Flipkart will resolve the problems that weavers and artisans face. This collaboration will help them with business insights by joining Flipkart’s initiative, Samarth. Such collaboration between the industry and academy is the first in India.
