Indian Institute of Management, Sambalpur has decided to take up a business model which involves the development of two clusters of the proposed smart villages . The aim is to help these villages in the social and economic development. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director IIM-S , stated that the proposal regarding the smart villages is still at the conceptual stage but they are serious about the business model.
The two clusters of smart villages includes one in western Odisha and the second in Koraput in southern Odisha. If the idea goes well, the same model will be replicated across the country. The cluster will have facilities such as schools, specialty hospitals among others.

He also said that they will identify the grey areas in the clusters and will try to work on them. The project will promote business and tourism hand in hand. It will be a self-sustainable business model. Both students and faculty members of the institute will work towards the same. They are also in talks with various local industries who could contribute to the development of these two villages. Other focus areas also include healthcare and education.

IIM Sambalpur will host their second convocation at Biju Patnaik Auditorium University. 45 students from the institute will receive their degree during the ceremony. The institute has witnessed a rise in the average salary package this year. Earlier the average offered to an IIM-S student was 7.2 lakh but this year it has risen to 10.03 lakh year.
