Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with semiconductor plant gear maker Lam Research India for a sponsored fellowship program. The fellowship will be offered to the second-year students of the Master of Technology (MTech), starting in the 2022-23 academic year. Lam research India also signed MoU with the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE). Lam India has also been part of CeNSE’s industry-affiliated program since 2014 and is regularly interacting with the centre to join hands for multiple creative projects.

Rangesh Raghavan, corporate vice president, and general manager at Lam Research India said that they are delighted to continue their longstanding relationship with IISc to develop talents and drive technological innovation in the semiconductor industry. He further mentioned that collaboration with the strong talent pool of IISc will strengthen its position in the semiconductor industry. The MoU signed will significantly enhance Lam Research India’s innovation contribution to the ecosystem.

The MoU highlights and re-establishes Lam Research India’s commitment to developing a better industry-academic collaboration and facilitating students to acquire specialized skills leading to growth opportunities in the Wafer Fabrication Equipment (WFE) industry. Prof. Srinivasan Raghavan, chairperson of CeNSE at IISc Bangalore said that the industry-sponsored CeNSE MTech Fellowships are aimed at attracting talents from the traditional areas of engineering and science, and enabling them to new opportunities in the rising electronics and semiconductor manufacturing industry. He also mentioned that programs like this will help the students to bridge the gap between the foundation they have acquired in the undergraduate courses in different streams and job requirements of companies in this area.
