The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-D) will be introducing several new degree courses and short-term certificate courses in its upcoming academic session of 2019-2020. The Director of IIT Delhi, V. Ramgopal Rao, declared this news of starting a variety of new courses on 20th April 2019, Saturday.
IIT Delhi will also be starting a programme called ‘Professors of Practice’ which will be an attempt for enabling working professionals to teach at the institute. V. Ramgopal Rao said that the motive to start this programme is to encourage individuals working in various industries to go and teach the students at IIT Delhi.
Mr. Rao spoke about the short term courses and said that they will be for working professionals. Students can apply for these short term certificate courses and through them, they can move up and get a degree if they are successful in clearing the examinations. Mr. Rao said that by these courses, IIT Delhi is not lowering its quality but it is simply broadening its base and making it easier and accessible for working professionals to study a particular course and obtain its degree from IIT Delhi.

A minor degree programme will also be introduced for students who are interested in getting training in entrepreneurship. IIT Delhi also has a Ph.D incubator in the pipeline which will be used to offer fellowships and resources for the development of startups.

Mr. Rao further said that they aim at bringing all the good institutions in Delhi under one umbrella so that they can all use each others’ help and resources for projects pertaining to social relevance. Their research will now be focused on whatever the needs of the industry market are in terms of social relevance.
