IIT Kharagpur has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Technical University of Munich (TUM) for the establishment of an Indo-German Collaborative Research Centre on Intelligent Transportation Systems.
The new research center will be established at the IIT Kharagpur campus. This initiative will mainly work towards promoting research and industry cooperation between the two countries in the field of transportation. The research projects would include green transportation, next-generation cars customization of advanced German transport solution as per the Indian roads and scenario.
The research center will be one of its kind and is expected to take research to a new level. Dr. Harald Olk, Director of TUM, Munich International Center said that one of the biggest challenge faced in the global world today is mobility options. The center that will be set up in collaboration will address the problems related to it and bring about revolutionary changes, he highlighted.

Prof Pallab Dasgupta, Dean, Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy, IIT KGP said that the MoU will open up new horizons and opportunities in the field of software and artificial intelligence.
He further said that most of the innovation in high-end German cars is done through electronics and software. Therefore this pact between the two will lead to new innovations for developing high-end cars of the future.

The center will focus on combining German excellence in engineering with India's prowess in software and systems engineering. Apart from this, the center will help in creating a sustainable R&D eco-system through various institutional cooperation and related researchers.
