IIT Kharagpur conducted its 65th annual convocation ceremony. The elite institute highlighted the importance of sustainable development motivated the students to enrol for higher studies and research initiatives in order to catalyse India’s growth.
IIT Kharagpur witnessed a sharp increase in the number of Ph.D degrees awarded. 372 scholars were awarded Ph.D degrees this year. This year 2802 students are being awarded degrees ranging from Bachelors to PhDs in all.
The Chief Guest at the event was Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Minister of Human Resource Development, Government of India. He spoke at the event and asked the institute to push innovation and drive ideas through them for profitable ventures. According to him, research will help to re-explore the scientific heritage of India.
Sanjiv Goenka, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Kharagpur and Chairman, R P Sanjiv Goenka Group addressed the audience and empahised on problem-solving nature of higher education and motivated the students to contribute towards the sustained development of the country through the use of innovation and skills.

The HRD minister also gave away gold medals to seven toppers.Prof. S K Bhattacharyya, IIT Kharagpur Director motivated all the graduating students to realise their social responsibilities and align them with personal goals.

The institute has taken several steps to increase the number of female students and to promote gender diversity. Increase in the number of Ph.D students was a proud moment for IITKGP.
