The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) will be collaborating with the Madras Dyslexia Association (MDA) for launching ‘e-Shikshanam ’. e-Shikshanam is a free teacher training programme in online mode which is designed for providing remedial support to children who have specific learning difficulties.
Teachers and other stakeholders will receive training by e-Shikshanam on how to manage a child who has dyslexia. The programme aims at giving remedial instructions to the children up to class 5.
The course is open for the primary school teachers who teach till class 5. It is open across the nation through the online platform where various courses from IITs are available - National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL).

MDA is a non-profit organisation that works with the aim of nurturing children who have dyslexia. According to it, the best way to enable dyslexic children for bridging the gap between their actual and potential performance is to go about with structured multimodal teaching which is done in a way that helps the child learn. MDA has come up with simple methods of identifying and remediating young dyslexic children. They will impart these strategies to teachers by the online training programme.
The course comprises modules like an introduction to dyslexia, screening, spelling, reading, writing, study skills, mathematics, multiple intelligence, and child development. The course will be provided without any fee charge, completely free of cost. It will equip the teachers with strategies and methods to cope with and provide solutions to difficulties faced by dyslexic children in reading, writing, studying, etc.

The learner can pursue the course according to their own pace. At the end of each module, the understanding of the learner is evaluated through quizzes and assignments. A certificate is provided to the trainee once the course has been completed. The trainee has to view case studies at the end of the course, analyse them, and answer the questions related to them
