On January 2, IIT Madras initiated its winter course on Machine Intelligence and Brain Research by Center for Computational Brain Research (CCBR). The winter course by IIT Madras is intended to provide interactive learning of brains and intelligence from the viewpoint of Neuroscience and engineering.
The winter course on the campus will be concluded on January 10, 2020, and will consist of over 400 registrations along with course credit to 50 students of IIT Madras. The workshop for 2020 will not only comprise of prominent research lectures from recognisable speakers from all over the world, but will also consist of hands-on practical learning in terms of machine learning, neuroanatomy, and research on brain science.

During the inauguration session of the winter course, director of IIT Madras, Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi stated that this course will be a part of 5th annual workshop which is continually benefitting the students to gain exposure in terms of Computational Brain Research and the relatability of machine learning, biotechnology and brain research. He further added that the workshop is determined to address a fair amount of global collaboration among various centres and researchers of the world.

The CCBR was established in the IIT Madras campus with a focus on two of the primary domains of research: intelligence and neuroscience. The establishment was completed with the donation as received by Alumnus Mr Kris Gopalakrishnan, who is known as the Chairman of Axilor Ventures and also the Co-Founder of Infosys. In collaboration with the IIT Madras researcher and faculties, the centre research is supervised by three of the renowned global researchers, Prof Mriganka Sur from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, Prof Partha Mitra from Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, USA, and Prof Anand Raghunathan from Purdue University, USA.
