The 6 th annual convocation ceremony of Indian Institute of Technology was organised at its permanent campus on November 28, 2017. Principal Advisor to the Union Minister of Power and New and Renewable Energy, Professor Ashok Jhunjunwala was the chief guest for the occasion.

Awards to Top Performing B.Tech Students: -
- A B.Tech student from Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Tushar Agarwal received the President of India gold medal.
- A B.Tech student from Department of Mechanical Engineering, Swapnil Rai was awarded director gold medal.
- A B.Tech student Electrical Engineering received a silver medal.

Addressing the students, Director of IIT Ropar, Mr. SK Das revealed that the student strength was increased from 820 to 1,120 during the previous academic session. Similarly, the faculty strength has been increased from 84 to 115. According to the latest data (2017), the average citations of IIT Ropar per paper stood at 8.23, which is highest among all the new IITs, he highlighted.
The permanent campus of IIT Ropar that is located on the banks of river Sutlej will be functional from next year.
