Out of the 1000 candidates that participated in the day-long exclusive job fair cum counseling session in Guwahati, more than 400 have been shortlisted for jobs and 200 candidates were shortlisted for skill development training. The job fair was conducted in the city on Wednesday, May 11 by the Vocational Rehabilitation Centre for Handicapped, wherein more than 250 differently-abled candidates took part.
The VRC organizes job fairs for the PWD regularly. This was the first ever inclusive job fair held in association with Byatikram Masdo to offer job opportunities to educated youths by bringing the prospective employers under one common platform. As part of the National Career Service Scheme of the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment, VRC, located at Gopinath Nagar, Guwahati, the scheme brings job seekers, employers, counselors and training providers under one roof bringing job opportunities and transforming and strengthening public employment service within the country.
Debashree Bhattacharyya, Rehabilitation Officer of the VRC stated, “It was a successful event where a large number of candidates took part and had interactions with the employers. The Assam Gramin Vikah Bank and Assam Co-operative Apex Bank Limited also took part in the event to support the students.”
29 companies took part in the event and shortlisted candidates according to their current openings. Some of the companies are Scholar Academy Education Trust, Zaloni, Hinduja Global Solutions, P&G, ICICI Academy of Skills, HDFC Bank, Airtel, Axis Bank, International Hospital, Narayana Hospital etc.
The Chief Guest of the program was SS Singh, Chairman of AGVP.
