Most colleges in Karnataka have started admitting students for first-year PU . Usually, the admission process has to begin after announcement of Class 10 (SSLC) / CBSE results. However, the SSLC results are yet to be published, and many other boards including CBSE are yet to announce the results.
Director of Department of Pre-University Education , C. Sikha revealed that commencing the admission process for first-year PU is completely illegal, and the department will take strict action against the colleges carrying out admissions ahead of the schedule specified as per the calendar of events published by the Department.

The Director of PU Education Department further called the parents and students to come forward and lodge the complaints against the institutes that were conducting the admission against the rules of PU Education Department.
According to sources, many students have already taken admission in a few colleges by paying a huge amount of fee in advance. A student who sought admission in first-year PU revealed the college management had demanded her parents to pay 60% fees for the first year to block the seat. The college management has indirectly influenced her parents. In reality, the student is hoping to get a seat in college with good merit.

Karnataka SSLC results are expected to be released on May 07, 2018, while CBSE results are expected to be out on May 28, 2018. Many colleges are trying to convince the parents that in the absence of SSLC marks sheet , marks scored by students in model exams prior to the board exams are considered for the admission. However, the PU Education Department pointed such rule as baseless.
PU first-year admissions in Karnataka are expected to begin from May 14, 2018. The date may be preponed.
