Minister of Higher Education CN Ashwathnarayan confirmed that the revised KCET 2022 ranks will be announced on September 29, and the counselling process is scheduled to begin on October 3. The decision comes after the Karnataka HC Divisional Bench Judgment on the repeaters issue. The minister indicated that the revised ranks will be prepared on the basis of a new ranking mechanism suggested by an expert committee and approved by the High Court. Through this new ranking system, 94% of marks from qualifying exams (PUC II) shall be taken into consideration for repeater students.
The expert committee constituted by the Government of Karnataka suggested a new ranking system that would benefit repeater and fresher students. As per this methodology, the scores of CET are normalised. For repeater students, 6 marks from Physics, 5 from Chemistry and 7 from Mathematics will be deducted constituting 6% of marks deduction overall.
While preparing the KCET 2022 ranks, 50% out of 94% from PUC shall be taken into consideration for repeater students. On the other hand, there will be no change for fresher students wherein 50:50 from 100% PUC marks and KCET are considered.
With the new rank list going to be out on September 29, both repeater and fresher students will witness a change in the ranks. The previous ranks that were allocated stand invalid and the counselling process will be conducted as per the new ranks.

The new proposal received a mixed reaction from students specifically fresher students who alleged that most of the repeater students scored more than 95% of marks in 2021 PUC (as the exams were not conducted due to the Covid-19 pandemic and all were declared ‘Pass’). Even though the government assured a 10% hike in the number of seats, it is to be seen if the seat matrix is going to be revised.
