Jammu and Kashmir has decided to reserve 4% seats in professional across the UT for students from Ladakh for the upcoming academic year (2020-21), The main objective for the administration to reserve 4% seats is that there are not many medical/engineering colleges in Ladakh.
The meeting regarding the decision was taken by J&K Chief Secretary B V R Subrahmanyam, An official statement regarding the same was released stating that the same.
According to the official notification, twenty-four seats from engineering colleges and 35 seats from medical colleges will be reserved from the total number of available seats (of Jammu and Kashmir). Whereas, the reservation for the residents of Jammu and Kashmir will be calculated on the basis of remaining seats.
This will help the students from Ladakh to not to move far away from the UT to pursue higher education. The reservation will help them pursue their dream of higher education as there are not many engineering and medical colleges in the Leh and Kargil districts.
Meanwhile, Kashmir University decided not to conduct the term-end examination and the students will be promoted on the basis of internal assessment due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
Kashmir University will not hold the end-term examinations for the current and previous semester this academic year and will promote students based on internal assessment due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The promotion of the students was done on the basis of UGC guidelines.
