“Education for Happiness” Course to be Launched at Lucknow University

According to Education Department Professor Amita Bajpai, the course will teach the students not to associate materialistic pleasures with happiness and connect with the Indian concept of Happiness, i.e which comes from within.

Education for Happiness Course to be Introduced at Lucknow University

From the upcoming academic year of Lucknow University, a new course by the name of “Education for Happiness” will be introduced in the M.Ed curriculum. The objective of the programme will be to teach the students about the “real concept of happiness”. The programme will also aim at familiarizing the students with the Indian concept of happiness said the Professor of Education Department Amita Bajpai.

Professor Bajpai also said that the optional course will be interdisciplinary which can be opted for by all the Postgraduate students. After the due approval from the Academic Council is received, the course will be launched from the upcoming year.

Adding on, Amita Bajpai stated that the prevalent concept of happiness is wrong due to which the children are looking at wrong places to seek happiness. According to her, no one can derive happiness from the materialistic world but from within. This is the true concept of happiness as well as the Indian concept which will be taught to the students. The course has already started garnering popularity even though it is yet to commence.

According to her, the real purpose of education is to help people lead a better life compared to the uneducated ones. But, in contemporary times, it has been observed that with education, comes anxiety and competition and the real purpose of education is failing. Through the course, the University aims at accomplishing the real purpose of education. Bajpai is hopeful of seeing a change in the society after students complete this course.

Professor Bajpai was thoroughly inspired by US First Lady Melania Trump’s visit to one of the schools in Delhi where happiness is practised. Bajpai also stressed the importance of identifying stress and happiness indicators.
