The tenure of Prof SB Nimse, the vice chancellor (VC) of Lucknow University (LU) has been extended by six months. Nimse, a professor of mathematics, was supposed to end his three-year term on May 12.
The decision was taken by Governor Ram Naik on Tuesday citing the delay in appointment of a new VC as the reason.
With this, officials at the university believe that the admission, examination and result processes currently underway will benefit as opposed to the chaos that the change in VC would have caused at this junction.
With six more months in hand, the university will also complete its Wi-Fi process and apply for a NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) grading of the university .
LU VC-designate is a member of the governing council of the Consultancy Development Centre, DSIR, Union ministry of science and technology and also a member of the steering committee for XII plan on higher education, Planning Commission of India.
Nimse joined SRTMU in July 2008. A PhD in mathematics, he has 34 years of teaching experience. Former secretary, Indian Mathematical Society, Nimse has been elected as the general president for 102{+n}{+d} Indian Science Congress for 2014-15. He has written 12 books on various topics on mathematics and has 21 research articles published in his name.
