Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has urged private medical universities in the state to reduce the burden of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) in Nashik.
MUHS is the only medical university in Maharashtra and is responsible for a large number of medical colleges. He further said that it will be better if there are a few more medical universities in the state. It will help MUHS to improve its quality. The Governor informed the same while addressing the 19th convocation of MUHS. There are 394 medical colleges in Maharashtra offering courses in various medical courses that are affiliated to MUHS. According to him, this will reduce the burden of MUHS and will work towards quality enhancement.
Establishing more medical universities will be helpful to streamline the medical admission process and improve the quality of education

The Maharashtra University of Health Science popularly known as MUHS is situated in Nashik and was established in the year 1998. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and research courses in medical and related fields. Admission to the courses at MUHS is done on the basis of a medical entrance exam. Admission to MBBS and BDS course at MUHS is done on the basis of the NEET-UG entrance exam and admission to the MD/MS course is on the basis of the NEET PG exam . For Ph.D. courses, admission is done on the basis of the MUHS PET entrance test.
