On August 1, 2017, DMER Maharashtra has released the first combined selection list for the admission to BDS/ MBBS course in private and government medical colleges across the state. The release of combined selection list created confusion and chaos among the medical aspirants.
DMER released first selection list for medical courses on July 28, 2017. Students who had secured a seat earlier were asked to confirm the admission by July 30, 2017. After the release of joint selection list for private medical and government colleges on August 1, 2017, DMER indicated that the candidates who secured admission in various colleges can withdraw the admission and continue with the allotment as per joint selection list. However, DMER has not allowed the students to switch options after the joint list release.

The names of the students who secured admission in deemed universities were again featured in the joint selection list. Interestingly, these students secured admission in government medical colleges as per the joint selection list. According to DMER, the candidates can switch the options if they wish. However, this particular clause is not applicable to students who secured and confirmed admission in deemed universities by July 30, 2017.
Parents expressed their disappointment over this policy of DMER. They claimed that the fee structure for government medical colleges was less as compared to that at deemed universities. They urged that DMER must allow the students to switch options.
