Make Students Sensitive to Local Socio-Economy Needs: President to Universities

Dedicating the BML Munjal University to the nation at a function that took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan, President of India, Pranab Mukherjee stressed on quality education. He asked the higher learning institutes to make students sensitive to local socio-economy needs. Higher education institutes must play a significant role in influencing the society rather than being modern and relevant. Students must use their research capabilities to address the real problems of the nation. Simply, higher learning institutes must become community assets, he added.

Giving details about BML Munjal University, President of India quoted that the varsity was set up in memory of Brijmohan Lall Munjal, a renowned and respected industrialist of the country as well as the founder of Hero Group.

Honourable President of India further indicated that in the current global scenario, quality of education is the key factor in moulding the career of young men and women. Around 140 million people will be in the college-going age group in the next ten years, and every fourth graduate across the globe will be a product of India’s higher education system. Therefore, only properly skilled and trained professionals will achieve success. Students must equip themselves with necessary skills and training to face the competitive environment, he emphasised.

Concluding his message, he said that it is the responsibility of the higher learning institutes to prepare the students for the globally competitive environment and sensitive to the needs of local socio-economy. Higher learning institutes must use the advanced technology and communication to modernise the education that makes it most effective and meaningful.
