The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has a plan to achieve over 50 lakh apprentices in more than 40 sectors such as agriculture, security, food processing, healthcare and wellness by the end of the year 2020.
Manish Kumar, MD and CEO of NSDC talked about the role of apprenticeship during the Skill Connect Road Show . According to him, apprenticeship plays an important role in tapping the potential of the youth which will ultimately lead to the growth of the economy. He informed that NSDC is using its funds, manpower and resources to train the youth.
NSDC is offering many short-term courses under the initiatives such as Udaan , Pradhan Mantri Kushal Vikas Yojana and International Skill Training. It will mainly focus on apprenticeship in fields such as gem designing, aviation, manufacturing, agriculture, media etc.

He further talked about the show Skill Connect Roadshow . Through this show, they plan to create awareness among the youth of the country to take benefits from these initiatives as till now the apprenticeship was only available in the manufacturing sector but now they can avail the same benefit in the service sector as well.
The concept of apprenticeship has changed and industry and is playing a vital role in training the students as it’s beneficial both for the students and the industry. The government will provide 25% stipend to apprentices in the small industries.

Also, NSDC is putting special efforts in states like Jammu and Kashmir and Northeast to provide educated unemployed youths with relevant job opportunities across the country.
