The National Institute of Technology - NIT Surathkal which is also known as NIT Karnataka celebrated its diamond jubilee (60th year) convocation ceremony on 2nd November 2019. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu delivered the convocation address and praised the institute for being among the top 10 institutions in the country
He expressed his gratitude as the institute is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee celebrations from 6th August 2019. 60 years ago on this day, the institute was set up and since its inception, the institute has been contributing to technical education.
The other dignitaries who were present in the convocation were Kota Srinivas Poojary, Karnataka Government’s Minister of Fisheries, Ports and Inland Transport; Professor K Balaveera Reddy, Chairperson of Board of Governors (BoG) at NITK-Surathkal and Professor K Uma Maheshwar Rao, the Director NITK-Surathkal.

Mr. Naidu, in his address to the students, emphasised on innovation and creativity in the institute. He says that the IITs, NITs, and Universities are now focusing more on research and innovation. He also stressed on the fact that the students must be provided with relevant opportunities to develop their social and emotional skills along with cognitive skills.
