NITE to Introduce 4-Year Integrated B.A.Ed and B.Sc.Ed Courses

A committee constituted by HRD Ministry has assigned the responsibility of introducing four-year integrated B.A.Ed and B.Sc.Ed courses to National Institute of Teacher Education (NITE). Teachers from pre-primary to secondary and senior secondary schools can take up these courses. These new courses will create more employment opportunities and mitigate the dearth of teachers.

Last year, the HRD Ministry constituted a committee of experts to prepare a comprehensive paper for setting up the Central University of Teacher Education. However, the committee submitted a report recommending the HRD Ministry to set up NITE instead of the Central University of Teacher Education .

The panel further stated that NITE might not address all the existing challenges in the system. However, it would attempt to address some of the major disconnects in the field. NITE will meet the professional requirements of teacher educators and teachers, establish benchmarks in the field of teacher training and provide policy guidelines, advised by the panel.

The committee also stated that NITE would play a vital role in formulating the models of curriculum transaction, cater to specialized areas of research & development and develop innovative training practices. The new integrated courses in the field of education will cater to the demands of teacher and industry requirements.

With a motive to lead national policies and practices, there is a need to develop discourses at par with emerging thoughts, initiatives in teacher education globally and research findings. NITE must also act as an advisory to HRD Ministry and NCTE on quality benchmarking, funding, research and planning.
