Niti Aayog Aspirational Districts Ranking 2018 has been released. The districts that have emerged on top in the rankings of Niti Aayog include Virudhunagar in Tamil Nadu, Naupada in Odisha and Sidharthanagar in Uttar Pradesh.

Niti Aayog Aspirational Districts Ranking 2018 Released

The districts that have emerged on top in the Niti Aayog Aspirational Districts Rankings 2018 include Virudhunagar (Tamil Nadu), Naupada (Odisha) and Sidharthanagar (Uttar Pradesh). On the other hand, the least improved districts in the list include Pakur and Chatra in Jharkhand and Hailakandi in Assam according to the delta ranking released by Niti Aayog.

The delta ranking which is a part of the Niti Aayog measures the incremental progress made by 111 aspirational districts between 1st June 2018 and 31st October 2018 across six developmental areas.

The six main developmental areas on the basis of which rankings are evaluated are as follows:

  • Health and Nutrition
  • Education
  • Water Resources
  • Agriculture
  • Basic Infrastructure
  • Skill Development

According to the district ranking, the district which has shown great improvements and qualitative jump in the scores between June to October 2018 include Kupwara in J&K, Siddharthnagar in Uttar Pradesh and Jamui in Bihar.

The districts that have shown great improvements in education include Gumla in Jharkhand, Virudhunagar in Tamil Nadu and Nupada in Odisha. Of 115 aspirational districts, only 111 districts took part in the survey. Three aspirational districts from Tamil Nadu and one district from Orissa could not participate in the same due to floods.

The initiative was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 5th January 2018 with an objective to keep a track of development in the field education, health, infrastructure , agriculture and others.
