CCMT 2016 will be conducted by the National Institute of Technology - Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal for admission to courses MTech/ MArch/ MPlan/ MArch and MDes. 30 NITs and 11 CFTIs are participating in the counseling process this year.
CCMT is a centralized system where GATE -qualified students can select any of the above PG programmes in NITs and some of the other centrally funded institutes. It was introduced to replace the system where students had to individually apply to various institutes and later appear for counseling or interviews. This new centralized system prevents students from skipping the counseling of colleges due to clashing of dates.
Following is some information related to CCMT:
Number of Reporting Centres and Help Centres | 44 |
---|---|
Number of Participating Institutions | 41 |
Number of PG Disciplines | 308 |
Number of Seats | 9,700 |
Students can fill the online registration form and apply to all programmes at all the institutions participating in CCMT as per their eligibility and preference. The counseling will be organized in three rounds subsequent to which there will be internal sliding. Seats will be allotted only on the basis of GATE scores.
On allotment of seat in any of the three rounds, the candidates will have to specify their willingness to take up the allotted course. There are three options:
- Freezing - signifying the satisfaction of the candidate with current allotment
- Floating - suggests inclination to all higher preferred choices across institutes for further rounds of counseling, excluding the third round
- Sliding - indicates willingness to higher preferred choices within the institute, allotted during further rounds of seat allotment.
Only the candidates who have marked their willingness as sliding will be subjected to internal sliding. Internal sliding is organized within institutes rather than for multiple institutes. For seats that remain vacant after all three rounds of allocation and internal sliding, there will be a national spot round (NSR). Fresh applicants can also participate in NSR where counselling and choice filling will be done from scratch. After seat allotment, candidates have to report to their colleges where all admission formalities are completed and classes are commenced according to the institute's academic schedule.
