Government Medical College, Keonjhar, Odisha has received a Letter of Intent by the National Medical Commission, approving an intake of 100 MBBS seats for AY 2022-23 admissions.

Government Medical College, Keonjhar: National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved an annual intake of 100 MBBS seats at Government Medical College, Keonjhar, Odisha. The newly-built college received a Letter of Intent (LOI) on August 23, 2022 for commencing admissions from the academic year 2022-23. Government Medical College, Keonjhar will function under the Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo (MSCBD) University, Baripada.
The state government has been ordered to provide undertakings with a commitment to supply necessary papers in order for a letter of permission (LoP) to be issued to begin admission as well as to increase the seat intake. The notice also clarified that until a formal permission is obtained from MARB, no student shall be admitted. Once the LoP is issued, Government Medical College, Keonjhar will be the 10th government medical college in Odisha.
“The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of NMC examined the Assessor's report and remarks of the UG Expert Groups on the infrastructure facilities of the college,” the notice reads, “such as laboratories, library, hostels, hospital and availability of the faculty, their experience, publications and residents/ tutors, nursing and paramedical staff available, along with other facilities available at Government Medical College, Keonjhar under the MSCBD University, Baripada for Starting of MBBS Course for the academic year 2022-23.”

In addition to the Dean-cum-Principal and Superintendent, 75 faculty members have been appointed, which include five professors, 36 assistant professors12 associate professors, and 16 tutors. The district headquarters hospital at Keonjhar, which is about 5 kilometres from the college campus and has an area of 44.4 acres, will serve as the teaching hospital.
The Government Medical College, Keonjhar is expected to be added to NEET UG 2022 Counselling in state quota as well as the all-India quota. Earlier this month on August 18, NMC also approved the Government Medical College Sundargarh, under Sambalpur University, Odisha for an intake of 100 seats as well, which will also be added to NEET counselling this year.
