No More Contractual Recruitment System in Odisha: The Odisha government on Saturday decided to abolish the contractual recruitment system in the state. The Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik, has made 57,000 contractual employees permanent and announced spending around INR 1,300 crore per annum for the implementation of the Cabinet decision.
Naveen Patnaik stated “Today, I am delighted to announce that the state cabinet has decided to abolish the contractual system of recruitment permanently. I was waiting for this moment. Even today, there are no regular recruitments in many states and they are continuing with the contractual recruitment system. But in Odisha, the era of contractual recruitment has come to an end. The government will spend approximately Rs.1,300 crore more per annum. The decision has brought in early Diwali for their family members.”
The abolition of the contractual system will allow the 57,000 employees in Group C and D positions to work mostly in the home, school, mass education, health, and family welfare departments. The state currently has permanent 3.8 lakh government employees.
Chief Minister added “I got an opportunity to serve Odisha in 2000. The post-supercyclone situation and the fragile financial conditions than were the biggest challenges for me. The state was running on overdraft. It was indeed a black period for the Odisha economy. The state exchequer was empty. There was tremendous pressure on our economy,”
The chief minister addressed that the state of Odisha is lagging in several sectors like education, agriculture, infrastructure, health, agriculture, and irrigation. “Our priority then was to bring improvement in all these sectors within our limited resources. Government recruitment was stopped completely. We were forced to abolish government posts,” Patnaik said.
Naveen Patnaik while advising the government employees to work sincerely and dedicatedly stated “Serve the people with commitment. Follow the 5T initiatives Teamwork, Technology, Transparency, Time, and Transformation diligently while discharging your duty. Work hard to enhance the image of Odisha and play a significant role in its transformation.”
