Deepak Dhar has been awarded Boltzman Model from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune for the year 2022 which is one of the most prestigious medal. The award has been declared to Professor Dhar for his contribution to ‘Statistical Physics’. Professor Dhar is one of the two physicist who was selected for Boltzmann Medal along with American scientist John Hopfield. The fellow colleagues at IISER Pune organized a small function in the campus to felicitate the Physicist.
This esteemed medal is awarded once in three years by the Commission on Statistical Physics of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP). Professor Dhar from IISER Pune is the first Indian to get Boltzmann Model. The award for the same will be presented at Statphys Conference to be held in Tokyo, Japan scheduled in August next year.
Professor Dhar was born in the year 1951. He completed his graduation in Science stream from University of Allahabad in 1970. He is an alumnus of prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur from where he did his Masters in Physics. Then he completed his PhD from US and joined Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) as a research fellow. When asked about the medal being awarded to him, Professor Dhar thanked everyone who chose him for this esteemed award and showed his happiness.
