On the occasion of bicentenary celebrations, Presidency University Kolkatta will spend Rs 50 crore for renovation and restoration of its heritage campus besides creating new assets.

The VC of Presidency University Anuradha Lohia said that the West Bengal government has given INR 50 crore to renovate the heritage campus. Under the restoration existing laboratories, pathways, buildings and common spaces will be revamped as per the advice of Heritage Commission.

- Exhibition spaces
- Modernisation of laboratories
- Open-air Amphitheatre would also come up
It started as Hindoo College in 1817 and turned into Presidency College in 1855 and finally became a university in 2010.
The celebrations will continue throughout 2017, It would be attended by noted alumni of the erstwhile college from across the world.

Agenda in the Celebration:
- Lectures by Nobel Laureates
- A heritage walk
- Global education summit
- Closing ceremony in December 2017 will mark the establishment of Rajarhat campus
- A literary festival
- President Pranab Mukherjee will attend on 20th January at the Founder’s Day
The celebration will be kicked off by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on 6th January at the riverside Princep Ghat. The Government of West Bengal had sanctioned INR 372 crore for the Rajarhat campus. For the Darjeeling campus, Government has sanctioned INR 93 crore and the buildings would be ready within two to three years.
