Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi has been appointed as the Director of Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee . IIT-R has been functioning without a director for the past one month.
Currently, Prof. Chaturvedi is the deputy director at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur as well as a senior professor at the department of electrical engineering, IIT-K.
Usually, the director serves for five years. Pradipta Banerji, former director of IIT-R, had completed his term in the month of October and Mr. PK Ghosh had been given charge as officiating director.

However, the date of joining of the new director is not yet confirmed. Prof. Chaturvedi revealed that he would assume charge as a director at IIT-R only in the month of January 2017 as he has some responsibilities to complete at IIT Kanpur. He further added that he would try to assume the charge within two to three weeks.
Earlier, Prof. Chaturvedi served as a faculty member at IIT-R. He shared that before joining IIT Kanpur, he taught the students of electronics and computer engineering at IIT-R. The staff and the students are considering his appointment as a homecoming.

Chaturvedi has an extensive experience in wireless communication technology. He was an IITian throughout his academic and professional career. He completed his Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech), Master of Technology (M.Tech) and Ph.D. in electrical engineering at IIT Kanpur. He also served as faculty at IIT Banaras from 1994 to 1996. Later, he came back to IIT Kanpur and has been serving as a faculty member in the department of electrical engineering.
