It has always been a challenge to select an institution for differently-abled students. Lack of some basic amenities and required infrastructure like disabled-friendly toilets and wheelchair ramps are an example of the hurdles that are faced by the students who have disabilities.
A polytechnic college in Karnataka which is aided by the government, approved by AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) , and is affiliated to the Board of Technical Examinations of the Government of Karnataka, has been attracting the physically disabled students mostly from the rural areas nearby. The college offers committed and well-qualified faculty members who help in providing quality technical education to these students with the state of the art facilities that the campus has.
This institute is located in Mysuru and has a total intake of 220. It offers diploma in Commercial Practice, Architecture, Jewellery Design and Technology, Computer Science and Engineering, Computer Applications, and Electronics and Communication Engineering.

Students with disabilities like orthopaedic disability, including the hearing or visually impaired and the wheelchaired, who have cleared SSLC or an equivalent examination are considered eligible for admission to this polytechnic college. Admissions are done strictly on the basis of merit.
The principal, Elangovan B, who has been associated with the JSS Polytechnic college for Differently Abled ever since it was incepted in the year 1991, said that they have been getting highly encouraging responses from their students. The courses that are offered at the institute are in huge demand and every year the enrolment to them is 100 percent.

The college also provides financial support to students in the form of scholarships from the central and state government. Support is also provided by corporates and philanthropists who offer financial support to all deserving students.
