The university administration of the Patna University seems to have undergone a change, earlier this week.
Mr. Amar Nath Singh on 18th April joined as the new head of Patna University's department of History. A notification regarding this. It is noteworthy that Mrs (Prof) Padmalata Thakur has been made the head of the Women's Studies department that has been newly opened at Patna University. Earlier the history department's head was Dr. Ran Vijoy Kumar, who had been officiating as the head of the department - Patna University. Meanwhile, it was circulated that Mrs. Thakur who has now been appointed the head of the department of women's studies would become the head of the history department. The University Grants Commission has recently sanctioned the funds and posts for the Patna University Centre for the Women's Studies.
Patna University (PU) is the first university in the state of Bihar that was established in the year 1917 during the British Rule. The university is the 7th oldest university of the Indian subcontinent.
In that period, the university was extended to the students of Bihar, the Kingdom of Nepal, and the Indian state of Odisha. PU oversaw the examinations for the educational institutions that were ranging from school to the PG levels. This extension also continued almost for 4 decades, until the origin of the Tribhuvan University - Kathmandu, & the Utkal University - Bhubaneshwar.
