112th Savitribai Phule Pune University’s convocation ceremony will be held on 20th January 2018. Raghunath Mashelkar will be the chief guest of the ceremony.
A total of 97,133 students will be awarded certificates on the convocation ceremony.

Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) will host its 112th convocation ceremony on Saturday, 20th January 2018. The ceremony will be held at the university campus. The chief guest for the evening will be the distinguished scientist and president of Global Research Alliance, Raghunath Mashelkar.
A total of 97,133 students will be awarded certificates on the convocation ceremony. Out of these, 79,371 will receive graduate degrees and 17,762 will receive postgraduate degrees. 58 gold medalist of different subjects will receive their medals in the second convocation ceremony of the academic year. Doctoral degrees will also be distributed to 347 students of SPPU in the second convocation ceremony.

The famous Shelar Mama Gold Medal will not be awarded this year. The university decided to do so after the controversy that surrounded the clauses of Shelar Mama society. The students who receive this award were asked to be vegetarians, teetotalers and yoga practitioners. However, the Shelars have now decided to remove the vegetarian criteria from the list.
This is the first convocation after the new rule came into enactment in 2016, added Vice-Chancellor of SPPU, Dr. Nitin Karmalkar, in a press meet.

As mentioned by the university officials, it was the maximum number of engineering and management students who graduated this year, maintaining the trend of the past years. The engineering department ranked first with 46,511 students graduating, of which 1,332 were post-graduates. 6,589 graduates were reported from the management stream.
