The students of the University staged a protest against the Delhi Police who made surprise checks in their hostels.
Students of Jamia Millia Islamia Object to Police Entry in Campus Premises

The students of Jamia Millia Islamia University opposed the entry of plain-clothed police personnel into the premises of the University. The police neither took permission nor informed the authorities of the University in advance. The officials of the University wrote to the Delhi Police demanding suitable action against them. The incident took place on August 14, 2016.

Dean of Students’ Welfare, Tasneem Meenai, in a separate letter to Delhi Police appealed that no “raid” was conducted by the police in the Hall of Residence for Boys. She requested the DCP of South East to take necessary action against the defaulting police personnel. She appealed to the students to maintain calm and urged them to work constructively to protect the image of the university.

Chief Proctor Mehtab Alam opined that the police have to follow the instructions of the Chief Proctor when they enter into the campus. The students of the University staged a protest against the Delhi Police who made surprise checks in their hostels. However, police claimed that the checks were conducted as a part of Independence Day fete.
