Tamil Nadu will add 150 MBBS seats in two-state run medical colleges during the upcoming admission season which will start from June. The Directorate of Medical Education confirmed the same. In addition to this, the state has issued a no-objection certificate for setting up three new medical colleges in Chennai.
Once these colleges started functioning, there will be over 600 additional medical seats in the upcoming academic year. The state has also got permission to increase 50 medical seats in Kanyakumari Medical College and Hospital.
Director of Medical Education Tamil Nadu Dr. R Naryanababu informed the objective is to increase seats in all tertiary care hospitals to 250. This will happen as and when with the increasing number of medical colleges in the state. The state has also given NoC to three colleges in Tamil Nadu which includes Priyadarshini Medical College, Panimalar Medical College, and Barath Medical College. If the decks for these three medical colleges are cleared then there will be 150 seats.
However, the main focus is on 2021 when the Tamil Nadu will start admission in 11 new medical colleges for 1650 seats. The inspection will take place in September.C Vijayabaskar, Health Minister Tamil Nadu informed that the construction of these medical colleges will begin soon.
Additional seats within the state will serve as a great opportunity for the medical aspirants to pursue MBBS course. More seats imply that more aspirants will be able to pursue their dreams.
