State Common Entrance Test Cell of Maharashtra has concluded the online registration process for MHT CET CAP counselling 2022, and the total number of candidates registered for the counselling is 1.3 lakh. Last year approximately 50,000 seats remained vacant after the conclusion of the CAP rounds. Only 88,376 seats were filled in 2021. This year, the scenario is expected to change as the situation turned normal post Covid-19 pandemic, and the number of vacant seats is expected to dip.
Previously, in 2021, there were a total of 1.39 lakh seats available for engineering admissions. Out of which only 98,000 candidates were registered, and only 88,376 seats were filled by the end of the admission process. The rest of the 50,00 seats were vacant. The number of seats filled did not even cross 1 lakh.
However, in 2022, already 1.3 lakh students have registered themselves for the MAH CET CAP 2022. But the number of seats available has been decreased to 1.24 lakh. By the end of the CAP 2022, it is expected that all the seats will be filled. In 2022, the number of registered candidates has witnessed a major jump from the previous year.
The officials have reported that, in 2021, the admission process was delayed, and so most candidates have already made their choices to seek admission in various other courses. But in 2022, since the MAH CET CAP 2022 started in due time, the number of candidates has increased. The first merit list will be released on October 12, 2022.
Further, a CET official stated that, in 2021, the number of seats increased to 1.39 lakhs after the total pool of the number of seats for EWS quota and other reserved category quotas, from the initial seat availability of 1.27 lakhs. Similarly in 2022, it is expected that the number of seats will increase upto 1.40 lakhs after the pool for the EWS and reserved category quota, which will be sufficient for admissions in 2022.
As per recent reports, the highest registrations are made of the colleges affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University with 31, 565 candidates, followed by 23, 049 candidates at the University of Mumbai. The provisional merit list will be released tomorrow, October 7, 2022, confirming the seat availability and seat reservation quota.
