Central Trade Unions urge the Union HRD Minister to defer the JEE Main examination, scheduled to be held on January 8, amid the proposed countrywide strike. 

Central Trade Unions Urge HRD Minister to Postpone JEE Main 2020

On Tuesday, Central Trade Unions wrote a request letter to Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, in context to postponing the JEE Main exam , which is scheduled to be held between 6th and 10th January, 2020.

The request has been made in wake of the countrywide general strike on January 8, 2020 due to the government’s alleged failure in terms of responding to the workers' demands.

On September 30, a united platform of 10 central trade unions had given a call for the countrywide strike.

In the letter, the Central Trade Unions have requested the Union Minister to postpone JEE Main exam, which is scheduled for 8th January 2020, to shift the exam to some other date owing to the proposed strike.

They have mentioned in the letter that the students may face issues in reaching their respective exam centers on 8th January as the transport sector employees are also participating in the proposed strike. Therefore, there is an urgent need to defer the exam to ensure aspirants do not face any obstacle on the day of the exam.

While the JEE Main 2020 applications closed on 10th October, 2019, the data suggests that there has been a rise in the number of applications received from women this year. Clearly, the data suggests that female candidates have started showing a lot of interest in take the engineering and architecture exam.

In addition to this, the National Testing Agency (NTA) for the first time opened the registration window for students from the EWS category.
