The Jawaharlal Nehru College (JNC) of Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh organized a UGC sponsored outreach programme that focussed on ‘Women Empowerment: Challenges Ahead with reference to the tribal communities of Arunachal Pradesh’. This initiative has been taken up in collaboration with the IQAC of the college and East Siang ABK (WW).
Educationist Bormoti Dai who was present on the occasion highlighted the importance of women empowerment and the efforts that have been taken up by Arunachal Pradesh towards a considerable progress in the education domain. Empowerment in its true sense, according to her, is still a distant dream. She stressed on the fact that quality education must be imparted to the girl children.

During the programme, a participant pointed out that an educated mother is the one who can sincerely lead a family and children within a nurturing environment. It is a fact that not many women in today’s date are aware of their rights - even the fundamental ones - because of lack of education and knowledge. Educating each and everyone shall be the way forward to ensure the protection of women against harassment of any kind.
Among the others present, some brought up issues and case studies to sensitize women through a number of powerpoint presentations as a part of the technical session.

Similar efforts are being taken up at college as well as university level throughout the country. Impressive schemes and plans such as Delhi University’s Cluster Innovation Centre (CIC)’s introduction to a new course on entrepreneurship for women has been receiving a good response and a positive feedback.
