The Coronavirus outbreak in India has forced the nation to go for a lockdown, and this aspect has severely impacted the admissions and academic calendar of various universities & colleges across the country. While many states have already extended the lockdown until April 30, 2020, it is sure second, that the admissions for 2020-21 shall begin late. On the other hand, the delay in the admission process will force universities and colleges to reschedule the academic calendar.
IIMs are also thinking of delaying the start of the academic session by a few weeks. IIM Ahmedabad is postponing the session by two weeks and due to the exceptional circumstances, they have adjusted their credit system wherein they will accept six-weeks internship as compared to the usual eight weeks. Similarly, IIM Udaipur will also delay the beginning of the ongoing batch and the incoming batch. IIM Udaipur usually begins the new batch around 20-30 June and the second-year students resume the session between June 1-7. This time, they are planning to resume both the sessions by the first week of July. IIM Kozhikode is also looking at a one-month delay and is planning to shift some content online. IIM Calcutta is planning to start the regular course sessions on May 4 as of now.
While the government is planning to suggest universities & colleges cancel the summer break or vacation. Except for the classes for first-year students, the academic session is expected to resume in mid-May for the rest of the students. As soon as the lockdown is lifted, pending exams will be conducted, and the academic session for the subsequent year will be commended without muck break.
As most of the entrance exams are postponed, the admissions for first-year courses are expected to be delayed at least by a month this year. Most of the entrance exams and postponed board exams may happen in May, and the admission process may begin in June. In all, the academic session for the first-year students may begin in July.

Online classes are being organized by some of the premier institutes in India. However, online classes are facing several challenges due to the slow internet speed in many locations. The government is figuring out ways for improving online learning methods.
