UP Education Budget 2019-20 Highlights

The Uttar Pradesh government has plans to set up a medical university in the state in former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee's name. Rs.50 crore has also been kept aside for construction of the university.

 UP Education Budget 2019-20 Highlights

The UP government has announced a medical university in UP in the name of Atal Bihari Vajpayee as a part of the budget for 2019-20. UP has also set aside Rs. 50 crore for medical college construction. A proposal to set up an AYUSH University in the state has come up and the funds proposed for that are Rs.10 crore. Rajesh Agarwal, UP’s Finance Minister presented Rs.4.79 lakh crore budget and announced schemes ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Schemes such as ‘Kanya Sumangala Yojana’ for raising educational and health standards of girls has been announced and Rs.1200 crore has also been set aside for this scheme.

The annual budget is 12% higher than the 2018-19 budget worth Rs. 4,28,384.52 and this budget has new schemes amounting to Rs. 21,212.95 crore. There is also a provision of Rs. 26.57 in the budget to set up Sainik schools in UP.

In addition to the allocation for the Sainik schools and medical colleges, Rs.10 crore provision has been also made for setting up government inter colleges (for both boys and girls).

UP Budget Highlights in the Education Sector

Some highlights of the UP budget pertaining to the education sector are as follows

  • Rs. 30 crores being set aside to be given as a grant to aided Sanskrit degree colleges and schools.

  • Rs. 25 crores being earmarked for establishing a satellite centre of KGMU-Lucknow in Balrampur.

  • Rs.242 crore provision to offer grant-in-aid to Sanskrit schools.

  • Rs. 908 crore for the development of a few district hospitals into medical colleges, and Rs.907 crore for KGMU Lucknow.

  • Allocation of Rs.357 crore for The Rural Institute of Medical Sciences and Rs.248 crore for Lucknow Cancer Institute's development.

  • Provision of Rs.854 crore for Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences and Rs.396 crore for Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute.

  • Rs. 2,275 crore for mid-day meal programme.

  • Rs. 18,485 crore for the scheme 'Samagra Shiksha' in the basic education department.

  • Rs.300 crore for two pairs of socks, a pair of shoes and one sweater free to each student from class I-V in schools run by the state basic education board.

  • Rs.5 crore for establishing primary and senior primary schools in ‘Vantangiya’ villages and Rs.10 crore for distributing schools bags.

  • Rs.40 crore for distributing free uniforms to primary and senior primary school students.
