The three-day-long Yoga Fest being organised by the Indira Gandhi National Open University, Regional Centre, Lucknow, began on Wednesday with an objective to sensitise students and other officials about its strength and health benefits in promoting physical, mental and spiritual health.
The programme began with a welcome by Dr Anamika Sinha, which was followed by a welcome address by Dr Manorama Singh, regional director. She said that the students and other officials should perform yoga daily which was very helpful in increasing their concentration level besides providing them good physical and spiritual health. She said that yoga should become a lifestyle for everyone irrespective of age and religion so that each one of us could live in bliss physically and mentally and may contribute positively for the well being of the society.
In the first session, Dr Vijay Karan, assistant professor, Sanskrit, Vidyant Hindu PG College, elaborated on how yoga could help us to live a better life in the present environment. While discussing the Ashtang Yoga, Dr Karan explained that it could be a viable solution for many lifestylerelated diseases.
Dr Karan said that yoga was a status of mind and had developed into an art of happy living which was being followed by the world around. He demonstrated that pronunciation of many words of the yogic exercise of pranayam is highly beneficial for many vital organs of the human.
