The 5th Asia Pacific Solar Physics Meeting was held at the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune. It is organised jointly by IUCAA and IISER, Pune . Professor Dibyendu Nandi received the Young Career Award for his contribution to solar Physics research in the past ten years in the Asia Pacific region. The meeting will conclude on 7th February 2020.
Professor Nandi is Ph.D. holder from the Indian Institute of Science and he has worked at the Harvard Smithsonian Center of Astrophysics and Solar Physics Group at Montana State University. He established a multi-institutional Center of Excellence in Space Sciences India at IISER, Kolkata after returning to India. His major contribution is in understanding the activity of the sun and its origin, exploring the physics of solar cycle predictability and one-cycle memory of the sunspot cycle.

Exploring the interaction of stars and planets in the solar system and exoplanetary systems through the development of computational models are some of his recent works. His vision is to develop national space weather forecasting capabilities in India along with his group at the Center of Excellence in Space Sciences India.
Asia Pacific Solar Physics Meeting once in a few years to recognize solar physicists under the age of 50 for their significant contribution to the field. It was first organised in 2017 by Professor Peng-Fei Chen from Nanjing University, China was the first laureate. Other awards considered in the meeting include development and organisational work, training and facilities provided to students and academic achievement.
