Wondering how BPUT grading system works? Let's break it down for you. At BPUT, your performance is assessed using a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) calculation. This is derived from your grades across different semesters. Here’s everything to understand about this system to track progress.
BPUT Grading System

BPUT Grading System: BPUT or Biju Patnaik University of Technology uses a grading system to measure how well students are doing in their academic performance. This system is based on a scale from 0 to 10, with different grades like A+, A, B, C, D, E, and F. If a student scores between 90 and 100, they get an O grade. For scores between 80 and 89, they receive an E grade. The pattern continues like this, with each range of scores corresponding to a specific grade. This grading system at BPUT helps the academic staff at the university to understand how students are performing and where they might need extra help. Here's the rundown of how the grading system at BPUT works to help you stay on top of your progress.

BPUT Grading System: Degree Requirements

To earn a B.Tech , B.Arch , or B. Pharm degree, candidates must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Successful Completion: Candidates need to pass all subjects with a minimum passing grade and accumulate the required credit points for their respective fields of study.
  • Academic Performance: Candidates must maintain a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 6.0 or above.
  • Financial Obligations: Students are required to settle all university fees and dues in full. Additionally, they should have no outstanding backlogs or unpaid fees for any course within the program.
  • Timely Completion: Candidates must complete their degree program within the designated timeframe.

Requesting Subject Exemption: Upon completing their final semester, students exceeding the minimum credit requirements in a category may apply to skip a subject they failed to appear for or did not pass. This request must be formally submitted through their college to the university for consideration.

Guidelines for Awarding Gold Medals

As per the BPUT grading system, gold medals are awarded based on a student's cumulative GPA, with the highest scorer during the academic year being recognized as the top graduate or university gold medalist. In cases where multiple candidates achieve the same cumulative GPA, they may share the honour jointly, receiving gold medals, scholarships, and other accolades.

However, it is important to note that candidates must have a cumulative GPA of at least 8.50 to be eligible for consideration for the Gold Medal. Additionally, students who opt for a Special Examination will not be in the running for the Gold Medal.

Details Mentioned on the BPUT Results

You can view your BPUT results and scorecard on the official website once they are released. To access your SGPA, scores, and other details, you will need to download the BPUT provisional certificate online. The grade card will contain your score specifics. If you notice any errors or differences, be sure to notify the appropriate department. Here's what you will find in the 2024 BPUT result:

  • Your Name
  • Marks Obtained
  • Enrollment Number
  • Overall Percentage
  • Marks in each subject
  • Branch Name
  • Branch Code
  • Result Status
  • Subject Code
  • Total Credits
  • Grade Achieved
  • SGPA

Instead of using the conventional grading system or method, BPUT has a different way to evaluate academic performance: a letter grading system. This system ranges from A+ to E, giving a straightforward measure of how well someone did. Your CGPA, which is based on these grades, shows your overall academic position at BPUT.

FAQs

Is there a formula for converting CGPA into percentage?

BPUT does not offer an official method to change CGPA into a percentage. Nonetheless, a common approach used by several universities is:
Percentage = CGPA x 9.5
Keep in mind that this is an informal conversion and might not be precise in every situation.

How is the Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) calculated?

To figure out your SGPA for a semester, you need to multiply the grade points of each course by the number of credits for that course. Then, add up all these numbers. Finally, divide this total by the number of credits you signed up for in that semester.

What are the grade points associated with each letter grade?

The grade points associated with each letter grade at BPUT are as follows:
- A+ - 10
- A - 9
- B+ - 8
- B - 7
- C+ - 6
- C - 5
- E - 0

What is the grading system followed at BPUT?

BPUT uses a letter grading system with seven different grades from A+ (the best) to E (the lowest). Each grade is given a specific point value.

How are BPUT results re-evaluated?

Students at BPUT can ask for a copy of their answer sheet or request a re-evaluation of their answers based on the BPUT grading system. After semester results are announced, students have 30 days to apply online for re-evaluation. However, this option is not available for all exams. It is advised that students complete and submit the application form for re-totaling or rechecking their answer sheet along with the necessary fees before the deadline.
