CAT score weightage in IIMs ranges from 20% to 65% for the first phase of their selection process. IIM Ahmedabad has been observed to give the highest weightage to CAT 2024 exam scores at 65%, followed by IIM Lucknow and IIM Udaipur at 60%. IIM Calcutta gives 56% weightage and IIM Trichy gives 50% weightage to CAT scores. The lowest weightage to CAT scores is allotted by IIM Bangalore and IIM Indore at 40% and 35%, respectively. CAT score is the most important criterion for admission to most of the IIMs. Candidates aspiring to seek admission to the top IIMs must obtain a CAT result 2024 ranging from 98 to 100 percentile.

Eligibility Criteria for MBA Admission to Top IIMs

It is mandatory for the candidates to hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA that must be awarded by any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disability (PWD)/Differently Abled (DA) category must obtain a minimum aggregate of 45% in graduation to become eligible for MBA admission to top IIMs.

Applications are also accepted from candidates who have completed their degree requirements and are awaiting results, as well as those who are taking the bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination. If selected, these candidates will only be able to enroll in the program provisionally only if they can provide a certificate on or before June 30, 2024, from the principal or registrar of their college or institute, confirming the fact that they have fulfilled all the requirements necessary to earn a bachelor's degree or an equivalent qualification as of the issuance date of the certificate.

Selection Criteria for All IIMs

As CAT score weightage in IIMs is the highest during the final selection round of admissions, candidates hoping to get into the top IIMs should concentrate more on their CAT scores. However, every IIM has distinct selection criteria with weightage earmarked for different parameters.

Admission Process at IIMs

Individual IIMs release their admission requirements and selection procedures before the CAT exam. This helps candidates learn about the minimum required cut-off percentiles, CAT score weightage in IIMs, selection parameters, and the procedure for shortlisting candidates for IIM admission.

1. The first step is to appear for the CAT examination and obtain the minimum cutoff score specified by the institute.

2. Candidates must apply for the WAT/GD-PI round by visiting the official websites of the IIMs as soon as the CAT results are made public.

3. After this, shortlisting of the candidates must be done for the Written Ability Test (WAT) or Group Discussion (GD) rounds. Candidates are shortlisted for this stage on the basis of their CAT scores and academic performance. Selected candidates will receive calls from the IIMs for the WAT or GD rounds. Applicants have between 15 and 45 minutes to write a brief essay on assigned topics. A group of candidates is given a specific topic to discuss during the GD round. The purpose of the GD round is to assess candidates' aptitude for group dynamics.

4. Prior to the final admission, the Personal Interview (PI) will be conducted through the Common Admission Process. Candidates are evaluated on a number of factors in this round, including their ability to communicate, their general knowledge, their presence of mind, etc.

5. Finally, a merit list will be prepared based on CAT percentile, WAT/GD and PI performance, academic history, academic diversity, work experience, and gender diversity.
