GATE Geomatics Engineering (GE) Syllabus 2024: IISc Bangalore has introduced a new paper on Geomatics Engineering this year. Candidates who opted for the GATE GE paper must refer to the official GATE 2024 Geomatics Engineering syllabus PDF to prepare for the exam. The GATE 2024 syllabus for Geomatics Engineering includes 2 sections Part A and Part B. Candidates who will be appearing for the GATE GE paper have to attempt Part A and will have the option to choose from Part B or Part C which they would like to attempt. Students who chose Geomatics Engineering (GE) as their primary paper can take Civil Engineering (CE), Environmental Science and Engineering (ES), Geology and Geophysics (GG), or Mining Engineering (MN) as a secondary paper. Along with that, there will also be questions from General Aptitude for a weightage of 15 marks. The GATE Geomatics Engineering exam 2024 will be conducted for 100 marks in online mode. The GATE 2024 syllabus for GE is as per the graduate level. Section- Wise GATE 2024 Syllabus for Geomatics Engineering

As Geomatics Engineering is a newly introduced paper in GATE 2024 exam, aspirants must have a thorough knowledge of what topics are covered in the syllabus, which topics they already know and which topics they need to study from fresh. In the GATE GY exam, Part A is a common section and it consists of topics like Engineering Mathematics, GIS, GNSS, etc. Part B Section 1 and 2 includes topics like maps, land surveying, digital image processing, image transformation, etc.

GATE Geomatics Engineering Syllabus 2024 PART A: Common

  • Engineering Mathematics - Surveying measurements, Accuracy, Precision,  Errors and their adjustments,Most probable value, Regression analysis, Correlation coefficient, Least square adjustment, Statistical significant value, Chi square test.
  • GIS - Introduction, Data Sources, Algorithms, DBMS, Creation of Databases (spatial and non-spatial), Data Models and Data Structures, Spatial analysis - Interpolation, Buffer, Overlay, Terrain Modeling and Network analysis.
  • Remote Sensing - Basic concept, Electromagnetic spectrum, Spectral signature, ResolutionsSpectral. Spatial, Temporal and Radiometric, Remote Sensing Data Products - PAN, Platforms and Sensors, Multispectral, Microwave, Thermal, Hyperspectral, Visual and digital interpretation methods
  • GNSS - Principle used, Data collection methods, Components of GNSS, DGPS, Errors in observations and corrections.

GATE Geomatics Engineering Syllabus 2024 PART B: Section I

  • Land Surveying - Various Levels, Levelling methods, Compass, Theodolite and Total Station and their uses, Tachometer, Trigonometric levelling, Traversing, Triangulation and Trilateration.
  • Maps - Importance of maps to engineering projects, Plotting accuracy, Types of maps, Scales and uses, Map sheet numbering, Coordinate systems- Cartesian and geographical, map projections, map datum – MSL, Geoid, spheroid, WGS-84.
  • Aerial Photogrammetry - Types of photographs, Stereoscopy, Flying height and scale, Relief (height) displacement, 3-D Model, Height determination using Parallax Bar, Digital Elevation Model (DEM), Slope

GATE Geomatics Engineering Syllabus 2024 PART B: Section II

  • Data Quantization and Processing - Sampling and quantization theory, Principle of Linear System, Convolution, Continuous and Discrete Fourier Transform.
  • Radiometric and Geometric Corrections – Registration and Resampling Techniques.
  • Image Enhancement – Contrast Enhancement: Linear and Non-linear methods; Spatial Enhancement: Noise and Spatial filters
  • Image Transformation – Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Discriminant Analysis, Color transformations (RGB - IHS, CMYK), Indices (Ratios, NDVI, NDWI).
  • Image Segmentation and Classification – Simple techniques.
  • Digital Image Processing - Digital image characteristics: image histogram and scattergram and their significance, Variance-Covariance matrix, Correlation matrix, and their significance.
