Important Last-Minute Tips for GATE 2025

Students can check out some last-minute tips and tricks for appearing in the GATE 2025 examination

Diligent Revision

It is commonly seen that students often prepare well in advance for examinations only to forget the key areas that they have studied earlier on the examination day. The prime factor behind this is the absence of revision more specifically in the last leg of the exam preparations. It is necessary to keep aside a specific time for revision within the daily preparation schedule of the students for efficient preparation. The GATE exam has a mix of subjects, and not all topics carry equal weight. Go over the high-weightage topics in your field. For instance, in subjects like Engineering Mathematics and General Aptitude, questions are generally simpler, yet they hold significant marks.

Attempt previous year question papers and sample papers

Attempting the sample papers and GATE previous year question papers with solutions and answer key PDF will enable increased confidence in the students along with making them  aware of the frequently asked questions. With only a few months remaining for the exam, you should practice as many sample question papers as possible on a regular basis. Make use of the remaining time to evaluate your areas of weakness. Check the previous years’ question papers and identify which topics are frequently asked. These are the areas to prioritize in your last-minute preparation.

Revise Key Formulas and Concepts

GATE requires quick calculations and conceptual clarity, so having important formulas and key concepts at your fingertips can be very useful. Create a formula sheet or review one you’ve already made. This sheet should cover formulas for high-yield topics, shortcuts, and any essential definitions. Practice questions based on these formulas to build confidence. Often, knowing how and when to apply a formula is just as important as memorizing it.

Revise Shortcuts and Tricks for Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions

NAT questions can be scoring as they do not carry negative marking, so make sure to attempt them carefully. Review any shortcuts or calculation tricks you’ve learned, as these can save you time in solving NAT questions. Practice a few NAT problems each day to stay familiar with the type of calculations required.

Focus on your areas for improvement

As you keep on revising your notes and solving the GATE sample question papers, you can find certain topics which seem to be difficult. Revisit the prepared notes again and attempt to solve questions of varying levels of difficulty to bring down your weak points.

Refrain from studying new topics

Beginning a new topic will not only reduce your revision time but it might also be strenuous for you at the last moment. students often try to study every topic prescribed in the GATE Syllabus and end up remembering only a small aspect of it. It is a more fruitful alternative to lay emphasis on important topics and attempt questions on them.

Undertake a mock exam rehearsal

Find a quiet area and start attempting any mock test or sample question paper. Take the test with a timer of 3 hours and be determined to complete the exam within that time frame. Such a practice will help you evaluate your time management and speed skills.

Keep track of time

The pre-exam period is a crucial time for students to utilize to the best of their capacity. students are advised not to waste time watching movies or planning a day out with friends as every minute is of utmost value during this time. Make a small pocket notebook to note down important points related to the subjects and go back to it frequently to increase your recall skills.

Use a Checklist for Exam Essentials

Prepare a checklist of items you’ll need on exam day. This includes your GATE 2025 admit card, a valid photo ID (like an Aadhaar card, passport, or driver’s license), and any required stationery. Check the admit card for the address or GATE 2025 exam centre s allocated to you and reporting time for your exam center. Plan your route to ensure you arrive early. Avoid carrying unnecessary items, like mobile phones or electronic devices, as they’re typically not allowed in the exam hall.

Maintain proper diet

In order to perform to your fullest potential in the GATE 2025 exam, make sure that your maintain a healthy diet and light physical activity. students should refrain from eating junk food because a single illness can dampen your chances of putting forward your best effort.

Plan Your Travel to the Exam Center

Make sure to know exactly how to get to your exam center. Visit the center a day before if possible, especially if it’s in a new or unfamiliar area. Arrive at the center at least 60-90 minutes before the exam start time. This gives you time to check in, go through security, and get settled without feeling rushed.

Timed Strategy for GATE 2025 Exam Day

Here’s a rough breakdown of how you could approach the three-hour GATE 2025 exam:

  1. First 15 Minutes: Read through the instructions carefully and briefly scan through the questions in each section. Note any easy questions you can tackle first.
  2. Next 1 Hour: Attempt the General Aptitude and Engineering Mathematics sections. These are usually simpler and can boost your confidence.
  3. Remaining 1 Hour 45 Minutes: Tackle the technical questions in your core subject. Focus on questions you’re confident about first. Mark difficult ones for review and return to them later if time allows.
  4. Last 15 Minutes: If you have time left, review your answers, especially the marked questions. Make sure all attempted questions are saved in the system.
GATE 2025 is a major step, but with the right mindset and last-minute preparation, you can face it confidently. Stick to a calm and systematic approach on exam day, and don’t let stress get the better of you. These final days are about keeping your mind sharp, revising effectively, and taking care of your physical and mental well-being. With these last-minute tips, you’re set up to make the most of your preparation and give your best performance in the exam. Good luck!

Rupsa, Content Team

Dear Student,

Unfortunately, Sikkim Manipal University does not offer M.Tech as a distance course. If you want to take admission here, you will have to enrol in a regular 2-year MTech course in Communication and Signal Process, Computer Science & Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Power Electronics. There are other PG distance courses available at Sikkim Manipal University-Distance Education (SMU-DE), like MBA, MCA, and MSc (IT), which are UGC and Distance Education Board (DEB) approved. However, you can consider other good colleges for M.Tech distance courses like Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), Annamalai University, …
