JEE Main 2017 Topper Interview: Kalpit Veerwal Says Hard Work & Dedication Important to Achieve Success

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) 2017 results on 27th April 2017. What may come as a surprise to all, it is absolutely true that Kalpit Veerwal from Udaipur scored a perfect 360/360. No one ever, in the history of JEE Main examination has been able to score 100 percent.

CollegeDekho.com got in touch with the JEE Main 2017 Topper - Kalpit Veerwal this morning to congratulate him and his family for his achievement. Here is what he had to say:

Ques: What was your first reaction when you got to know that you had managed a perfect score? Were you expecting it?

Ans: I received a call from CBSE Chairperson, Mr. R. K. Chaturvedi on Thursday morning who congratulated me and told me that I had topped the JEE Main 2017 with AIR 1. He added that I had scored a perfect 100 per cent by securing 360/360. I was at first shocked but then couldn't contain my happiness. I was expecting a good score, but never thought I would score full marks. It is a very moment for me and my entire family.

Ques: Did you always want to be an engineer? How did you decide what you want to do?

Ans: I never planned to take up engineering, and it was not as if it was my ultimate goal was to get into the prestigious IITs. It is just that I enjoy what I study, learning makes me happy.

Ques: Did you enroll in any engineering coaching institute? If yes, which one? How did it help?

Ans: Yes, I enrolled into Resonance when I was in class VIII. The guides and teachers there were supportive of me and helped me whenever I used to get stuck with something.

Ques: What was your preparation strategy? How much time did you devote to studies on a daily basis?

Ans: I devoted about 5-6 hours daily for preparation. I used to wake up early in the morning to study. Revision from the course and study material, regular mock tests is what helped me. I made it a point to get my doubts cleared with the help of my teachers at school and the coaching institute. Moreover, I tried to be consistent and regular with my classes. The desire to learn and improve my knowledge helped me equally.

Ques: How did you manage the CBSE board exams and preparation for the JEE Main 2017 side by side?

Ans: I finished and revised the entire board exam syllabus in the month of November. Since the board exams were scheduled to be conducted in March, I revised the NCERT syllabus one month before the exam.

Ques: What will be your strategy for JEE Advanced now?

Ans: I have already begun revising the concepts and topics for the next hurdle that I have to face. Plus, I will continue to devote more time to studies and practice as many mock tests as possible. With AIR 1, I am confident that I will be able to crack JEE Advanced as well.

Ques: Which college are you targeting for your B.Tech? Which stream?

Ans: I wish to take up B.Tech Computer Science Engineering at IIT Bombay .

Ques: Where do you see yourself 5 years down the line?

Ans: I haven't thought about it yet! However, once I have enough experience, I wish to launch a start-up of my own.

Ans: My father works at a government hospital while my mother works at a government school. My brother is pursuing MBBS from AIIMS . They are all feeling very proud at the moment, and I am more than thankful to them for extending their support and blessings on me, without which I wouldn't have been able to achieve success.

Ques: What is your message to future engineering aspirants?

Ans: I would just say - Keep up the hard work, don't let your focus shift and be confident of what you've learnt! Follow your teacher's advice and practice a lot of mock tests!

Are you feeling lost and unsure about what career path to take after completing 12th standard?

Say goodbye to confusion and hello to a bright future!
