Most Common Questions from Parents with Solutions

Case 1 – My son got a good rank in JEE Main and he may get admission in top NIT. The top NIT is located in another state, and I do not want to send my son far from home. Which engineering college is best in this case?

  • Solution 1: As per the above case, the parent does not want to send his son far from home despite his child’s good performance in the JEE Main exam. The first advice that we can provide is to not compromise on such things as the child has a good rank in the entrance exam and the chances for the admission in top NIT are high
  • Solution 2: Secondly, the parent can identify whether there is an NIT located in his/ her location or nearby city. If yes, check the record of accomplishment of the institute such as previous placements report, fee structure, and infrastructure. If all the aspects are satisfactory, it is advisable to choose the respective NIT
  • Solution 3: Thirdly, if there is no NIT located in the city or nearby location of the parent, he/ she can send his/ her son to the top private engineering college located in the region. While choosing the top private engineering college, it is advisable to do a background check

Case 2 – I heard that NIT Warangal, Trichy, MNIT Allahabad, etc are some of the top NITs in India. My daughter has got below 500 rank in JEE Main. She may get admission to any of these NITs. However, we cannot afford the fee structure in these NITs. Are there any scholarship facilities for students in NITs?

  • Solution 1: This is the most common case among most parents. Usually, first-year students in NITs do not get any scholarships. Based on the academic performance of students in the first year, NITs offer scholarships/ grants to students in subsequent semesters. To be eligible for the continuity of such a scheme, students need to maintain good academic performance consistently. Summer Internships from the third year will also help students cover a part of their academic fees
  • Solution 2: Secondly, an Education Loan is provided by various banks to students pursuing B.Tech in NITs, and he/ she can repay it after the completion of graduation. Therefore, parents who cannot afford the high fee structure in NITs can rely on education loans. Pursuing in top NIT like Warangal/ Trichy will land your daughter in top jobs, and repaying the education loan becomes easy
  • Solution 3: Thirdly, it is advisable to make your daughter appear for the state-level engineering entrance exam. If she gets a good rank in it, she may get admission to a top private college where the fee structure may be relatively less than NITs. On the other hand, she may also get admission to a top government engineering college run by the state government in your region

Case 3 – I want to send my son or daughter to top NIT. Which are the best NITs in India for B.Tech?

Solution: In this case, the parent is clear about sending his daughter to top NIT. The list of some of the top NITs in India are as follows –

NIT Trichy

NIT Warangal

VNIT Nagpur

MNIT Jaipur

NIT Pondicherry

SVNIT Gujarat

Note: The closing ranks for most of the courses in the above NITs are below 5000. Therefore, these NITs are mentioned as top NITs.

Case 4 – My son has gotten admission in the newer NIT that does not have a permanent campus. Will it affect his career? Alternatively, Should we wait for the better option in JoSAA counselling?

  • Solution 1: Most of the newer NITs in India do not have a permanent campus, and the construction of the same is underway. All new NITs will get permanent campus soon. If the NIT in which your son got admission did not complete its first batch of B.Tech, it isn't easy to analyze the placements record. However, you can interact with the second or third-year students pursuing B.Tech in the respective institute to have an idea of quality education and faculty track record. If you get a positive response, you can go ahead with the admission
  • Solution 2: You will have freeze, float and slide options in JoSAA counselling. Therefore, you can choose the float option and wait for the better allotment. However, it is advisable to wait only until 3rd round and not delay much. If you do not get a better allotment, you can proceed with the existing allotment.
  • Solution 3: If you are not willing to join your son in the newer NIT and the chances for admission in top NITs are less due to JEE Main rank, it is advisable to choose the top private engineering college in your region
