Eligibility Criteria of BA Courses
To take up B.A. courses in India, the general eligibility criteria is one of the most flexibles. If one has studied science or commerce, He/She can also take up B.A. courses if his/her best of four aggregate matches with the minimum percentile prescribed by the university. However, for some courses, the university requires that the Candidate has studied the subject earlier. For example, English Honours is open for all, as English is a generalized subject but to take up other languages B.A. courses such as Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam, the university requires some basic knowledge of the languages and their literature to take admissions in them. The same goes for honours courses in Economics, Geography, History, etc. courses. Also, there are some courses that the applicant learns from scratch. The courses include Journalism, Film Studies, Fashion Designing, Media Science, Fine Arts, etc.
The eligibility criteria for admissions in B.A. courses also require the candidate to complete 10+2 level or similar level studies.
Eligibility Criteria of MA Courses
Taking up Masters's courses in any stream requires the candidate to have completed at least a Bachelors's level course.
Taking up a Master's course in arts mostly requires the candidate to sit for an entrance examination in which the candidate’s aptitude and basic knowledge on the course are checked. The candidate can take admission in any same, similar, or related course in Masters M.A. level. The candidate can choose the courses according to his/her B.Tech specializations. For example, to take up M.A. in Geology, the candidate can apply even if he studied Geography at B.A. level or vice versa. The same applies to Journalism Courses. The candidate who has a B.A. degree in any Language/Literature course or even commerce students can take up M.A. Course in Mass Communication courses depending on her performance in the Entrance Examination.

BA and MA Course Fees in India for Central and State Government Colleges
The fees for studying Arts courses in the Best Central and State government Universities and their affiliated colleges (if available) is comparatively very cost-efficient. The course fees for B.A. and M.A. courses in these colleges generally start as low as 5 thousand rupees per year can go up to 20 thousand rupees per year only. However, studying B.A. and M.A. courses from private universities may cost at least 2 to 3 times higher than government colleges.
The point to be noted is only a handful number of self-financed universities could make it into the top NIRF list that offers arts and humanities courses. Students generally prefer to study B.A. and M.A. courses from Public/Government Universities.
