How is CGPA Calculated at LPU?

Here's a breakdown of how CGPA is calculated at LPU:

  • Grade Assignment: Your marks in each subject are given letter grades (A, B, C, D, F), each corresponding to a specific number of grade points as per a set scale.
  • Credit System: Every subject in your program carries a certain number of credits, indicating its workload and complexity. For instance, a core engineering subject might have 4 credits, while a language course might have 3. You can find credit details for each subject in your course curriculum or timetable.
  • CGPA Calculation: To calculate your CGPA, follow these steps:
    • a. Multiply Grade Points by Credits: For each subject, multiply the grade points earned (from step 1) by the subject's credit value.
    • b. Sum Weighted Products: Add up the products obtained in step 3a for all subjects taken in a semester (or for your entire program if calculating overall CGPA).
    • c. Divide by Total Credits: Finally, divide the sum from step 3b by the total number of credits you have enrolled in for that semester (or your entire program).

Example:

Each subject has a grade and a credit value:

  • Subject 1: Grade B (8 points), Credits: 4
  • Subject 2: Grade A (9 points), Credits: 3
  • Subject 3: Grade C (7 points), Credits: 5
  • Subject 4: Grade D (6 points), Credits: 2

To calculate:

  • Subject 1: 8 points x 4 credits = 32
  • Subject 2: 9 points x 3 credits = 27
  • Subject 3: 7 points x 5 credits = 35
  • Subject 4: 6 points x 2 credits = 12

Adding these weighted points together gives us 106.

Total credits for all subjects: 4 + 3 + 5 + 2 = 14

CGPA = Total weighted points / Total credits

CGPA = 106 / 14 = 7.57.

FAQs

What happens if I retake a subject at LPU? Does the new grade affect my LPU CGPA?

Yes, if you retake a subject at LPU and get a better grade, that grade will be used to calculate your CGPA. They consider the improved grade from the retake to enhance your overall academic standing. It's best to check LPU's official guidelines for the latest information on how retakes affect CGPA calculations.

Is there a difference between CGPA and TGPA?

CGPA and TGPA serve different purposes. CGPA looks at all your grades and credits across all semesters, giving a broad picture of your overall performance. - D - 6 points
- F (Fail) - 0 points

What is CGPA and how does LPU use it?

CGPA, which stands for Cumulative Grade Point Average, is used at LPU to keep tabs on how well you are doing academically. This system takes into account not only the grades you earn (like A, B, or C) but also the significance of each course (credits). By multiplying your grade points by the credits and adding them all together, CGPA offers a direct view of your academic performance throughout your time here.
